It was while spending time in Brittany that I began to treat these cards as something more than festive greetings. The landscape there is formed by the wind; the trees bend to its will, the stone architecture is built to hunker down against it. The light is ever-changing, the clouds more miraculous than any Tiepolo. The vegetation alternates between tundra like grasses and heather to lush interior valleys thick with fruit trees and groves of the surprisingly elegant pin maritime, a kind of umbrella pine.
